1. The National Museum of Finland
When you visit a country for the first time, you often have a vague idea of its history. This museum is therefore a good way to learn more about the culture and history of Finland. It presents its evolution from prehistory to today.
So you will learn more about the Sami people, on the different Russian and Swedish occupations, or even on the language of the country, the origin of which is not yet certain. You will have several choices during your visit, either to take part in a guided tour or to visit the different rooms at your leisure.
Despite a somewhat austere building seen from the outside, the interior of the National Museum of Finland offers pleasant surprises.
2. Temppeliaukio Church
This monolithic church is an architectural treasure dating from the 1960s. It was designed by two brothers: Timo and Tuomo Suomalainien in an expressionist style.
What makes it so remarkable? It is in particular its roof which lets in daylight. Furthermore, it was largely built granite. So from the outside it almost looks like a bunker.

3. Suomenlinna Fortress
This impressive fortress is located at the entrance to Helsinki Bay. It is located on a group of islands off the coast of the city center. It was built during the second half of the 18th century, by Swedish admiral Augustin Eherensvärd.Initially, its aim was to defend the Kingdom of Sweden against the Russian Empire. It then served as a defense during Finland's independence in 1917 (and was then renamed “Suomenlinna” which means “Fortress of Finland”).
The fortress of Suomenlinna still constitutes a exceptional example of military architecture of the time. This fortress is also listed in the UNESCO world heritage. It alone constitutes a district of Helsinki with almost 1000 inhabitants.

4. Hakaniemi Market
Located in the Kallio district, In the center of Helsinki, Hakaniemi Market Square is particularly famous for both locals and tourists.
